GO  BACK    GO HOME    GO  FORWARD

Sunday December 31

Terry is working on a new silver belt buckle template.

This is Sat. late afternoon. We sat outside and listened to A Prairie Home Companion.
Friends Bob and Linda from www.because-we-can.net  stopped by when they saw our fire
and we sat out till after dark around the fire talking about living this life, and how we each
do it in our own style. Slowly moving our chairs closer to the fire to keep warm.
It may be AZ in the desert but at this time of year when the sun goes down the temp drops right off.
We met Bob and Linda on the internet. I like the phrase on our main site Hitchitch.com
People sharing with People... What the Internet does Best!
Each doing their own thing in all types of RVs.
In Q in the BLM you see all kinds of people into the lifestyle..
All looking like they like it, from tents to high end MHs. And we all wave, and say HI as it is the lifestyle,
not the type of unit you use, to fulfill your dreams in, that matters.

Terry showing off his belt buckle he is working on. Notice how old pallets burn so well.

A vender an Main St. selling small tractors. I hits me how many people will want to
haul one of these back up north behind their RVs. Some look like antique, so might be a market for them.

We are staying home in the 5er and not going out. Q is not a big party town. Will watch TV
and usher in the new year if Terry can stay awake that long. He sez the NY ball drop is at 10 our time.
He thinks he can make it till then. Big of him don't ya think. What a party animal.
At least I hope we don't have to worry about gunfire at midnight like we had in south Texas.
Might be a few people in the BLM running their generators a little past 10 tonight. Most people in trailers are so far
apart and have Honda units that are super quiet. MH units might be a bit louder but who cares.

Garrison Keillor has a New Years Eve special from 8 to11 AZ time on PBS
This is great since we are big fans.

UPDATE:  At 10:20 PM AZ time we saw the ball drop in NY citry and GK is still on PBS
with his show from Nashville, TN
The Andre Extra Dry Chanpagne is very tasty.
Oh... and did also say cheap! 3 for $10
Terry is heating up the French Onion Soup and other goodies.
He did such a great job on it last week I asked for it again..

Monday January 1

A new day A New Year...

And the leftovers from the night before...

We got up, went for a paper, and Terry fixed great omlets.
Watched the Rose Parade and just relaxed.

Fixing great steaks for supper and watching bowl games.
That's what people are supposed to do, RIGHT.
So tomorrow we can see how fast we can break our resolutions.

Tuesday January 2

As the rest of the world goes back to work, us fulltimers get up say the holidays just don't end.
Like the town motto goes Everyday's a Weekend in Quartzsite.

My big events for the day was to deal with some insurance issues.
Remember when I backed into someone in early Dec. And calling the library to renew a book.

We got our mail forwarding and and wondered why the envelope was so big.
They sent all new license plates for the truck and 5er and just tags for our car.
People are always asking what the fees are for South Dakota and I can never remember
so now that I got got the bill. I bet I would remember if the fees were high priced.
Our 2003 1 ton dully long box was about $55 and the 2003 HHII 5er was $122 and
our old low mileage 1994 Grand Am was $30.

Seems like a good deal to me.

I was up till after 2 AM (love boondocking and with AGB bats for power) last night downloading
Microsoft Office Accounting 2007 (FREE) 208 Meg
You can also send for a free CD which I did, but when I want it, I want it. So download I did.
Late night on a sat system you can get good download speeds. True broadband!
Once you get it downloading a satellite internet system can fly. It is the up and down delay that can kill you.
It has to talk to a satellite  22 K miles up when you send a commond and then back down 22 K miles down
to the receiving station and on to the regular www network, then the ground station sends back up 22K miles
and then back down 22K miles to you. Think about that. You know how that works when you watch TV news
and they are talking to someone on the other side of the world and there is that delay between questions.
The same thing.

Now I don't know what type of connection you have, but 208 M is NOT a small download.
At 99% it brought up another window and all I could tell stopped responding. I was livid...
But it took, and I was able to install it.

Trying it get JAM Affiliate Manager installed on a SQL database on my hosting server.
Still struggling with this one.
OK.. OK so why? What am I doing? Setting up affiliate software for the distribution of ALARM IT units.
Camping stuff is expansive and we all need to protect it. This is an easy way to keep it safe.

When we got the good steaks we got the 4 pack so tonight we are going to have the last two.
Let me tell you the ones we had last night brought back that taste of steaks from
years past in IA with that corn feed beef taste.

Now tonight right after a shower, and now watching the Orange Bowl and also recording for later,
NCIS and Boston Legal we are going to eat good again.

Here I am again at 12:45 PM still at this tube. Getting a referral link up for Tioga George to look at.

Some fun New Year quotes I posted to another site I do.

Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.
    ~Oprah Winfrey

Youth is when you're allowed to stay up late on New Year's Eve.
Middle age is when you're forced to.  ~Bill Vaughn

One resolution I have made, and try always to keep, is this:
To rise above the little things.  ~John Burroughs

He who breaks a resolution is a weakling;
He who makes one is a fool.
~F.M. Knowles

New Year's is a harmless annual institution,
of no particular use to anybody
save as a scapegoat for promiscuous drunks,
and friendly calls and humbug resolutions.  ~Mark Twain

Being from  the midwest I offer this post...

In the MidWest Now... in this New Year...
It is now time, as we know, to get back to WORK.
The beloved Christmas tree is in the drive with tinsel and good cheer trying
to hang on, but now mostly just blowing in the breeze.  The dried pine needles fall,
and give the snow covered ground the only hint, that this was, and will be again, a
green covered lawn, come next spring.
We think it was a good tree, and wish it would be picked up soon, so we don't have to watch it be less
than how we treasured it in our home.

We did party hardy to welcome in the New Year.  Didn't You!
It is a passage we humans like to hold on to.

For many of us, (in the midwest) our self worth is how we manage to cope with the winter season.
A personal challenge each year to be up to the task of survival, and the satisfaction of
providing for our families and bringing home, through a snow storm ,the nessieties. of life.

Remembering in a small way that we, like our ancestors, can too measure up,
and make it on our own. Knowing that spring will be here soon.

Now, we think, is the time to look toward the next season.
After all we are just gods creatures, who look to the sky and stars,
on a cold winters New Years night, scanning for a spiritual understanding
of what our own short lives are all about.

The date changed, but nothing happened to change the world.
So we now must just continue on in trust that things can be better, or at least trust in ourselves.
Some, trust too much, and give up their minds, and others trush nothing, and have nothing to trust in.
Wonder if trust,  is the same as faith?
................
When I now read my entry, I wonder was it insightful, or just ramblings of nothings.
But is that,  what a blog is and is not? A diary that maybe should be locked, and not read by anyone,
or now a diary (blog) online, read by everyone.

Thursday January 4

No snow in AZ and yesterday I guess I longed for the holidays of long past.
Today is a new day and here we go with the big events about to happen in Q.

Terry rode the bike from the BLM long term camping where we at to get some silver from
Altamont Jewelry Supply who moved from The Main Event to a new metal shed in Tyson Wells.
His place is on the right in the lineup (below pic) of stalls with roll up doors. Nice new disgs.

The last two, on the right, stalls are where, if you have ever been here, (Hi Jenny in Canada)
are where Lamm's Produce used to be. They were just added on going south to the drive.
This is the south side of Tyson Wells looking north. HWY 95 is just to the right.

In the above pic Terry took of the Kettle Corn vender in Tyson Wells.
I told him to bring home Carmel Corn... He got a picture but no corn.
Things are getting busy with even cars backed up at times on main street.

A BIG difference from just a week ago. Guess we got accustomed to this place being
deserted like when we got here in late Oct.

One thing we did forget is, not to try to get fuel on, or near, the weekends as it is backed
up at the stations. Would you believe people would stop here in Q or fuel, instead of crossing
over into CA just to the west. Oh.. and save 60 - 70 cents or more for a gallon of gas.
You should see the back-ups at the Flying J station less than one mile from the CA border on I-10, on the way to Blythe.
And the big trucks have to idle down down to 55 going into CA and here in AZ they can go 75.
You do sort of want to get out of the way of the big trucks when they come into AZ from CA
as they like to kick it up the cruse from 55 to 75.

Friday January 5
by your roving reporter Terry

I have been slack in my reporting of late, and Ron has has to carry the day for the last few posts.
Tonight I'll try to keep everyone entertained.

Last night the clouds rolled in late, and we got the tiniest bit of rain.  I could see the damp spots this morning
where the water has run off of the trailer and truck.   With the cloud cover it stayed warmer last night and
we could tell it as the furnace did not run.  A very nice respite from the cool nights we have been having.

Of course the nice weather did not last,  by mid morning the wind kicked up and along with the gust came the
blowing dust.  It was also a cold wind out of the north, and made for a less then perfect day.  I was going to
say a miserable day but that would have been an exaggeration.
The people with the miserable days are up north in ID, MT, WY, and Co.  Here we are just inconvenienced a bit.

Went in to the Rock Club this morning to teach a casting class and ended up with five in the class,
one more then I would have liked, but with a bit of luck made it through by noon, and everyone
went home with a nice casting.

Saturday January 6

The day broke clear with NO strong big winds. A bit cool but as the day went on it warmed up. I (Ron)
stayed in shorts... Exclaiming if I dress this way IT WILL get warmer.

Terry Do's were on the list for today... so he had to install a light in the cabinet area in the kitchen.

We got tired having to find a flashlight to find things under the sink.
This is the main food storage area. So we are looking here many times a day.

We had company today.
On the left are Jim & Sherri Reed and Terry in the center and their friends Jack & Nita
on the right. The have been following our blog for some time. WOW...  and Jim and Sherri
are big on fly fishing and like to read where Terry has been fishing.
We just had to get a picture with them in front of the tomato plant.
It was fun meeting them and we hope to meet up again and have a big campfire.
We could talk for days about each others travels.
They are with the Boomers BOF with the Escapees club. If I heard right.

I had Terry make a better hanger for the tomato plant so it would hang
higher up in the basement of the 5er. Notice the bucket handle is not used anymore.

Now we may not even have to take it outside, but just open the door for the southern sun exposure.
Sort of a 5er basement plant hot house. It has been cold and it is not doing well like if it was in the heat
of the midwest in the summer. BUT that is the challenge of the growing a tomato in AZ in winter.
Next to it is our Geranium plant. It has been doing well, but we just pinched off the flowers.

A pork roast with saurkraut and potatos is in the oven and a Harry Potter movie is on TV
(Terry loves Harry Potter stuff) and I am on the net updating this and my other sites.

Also working on a affiliate link on our main site, for people who would like to help us promote
ALARM IT units and get paid for it.  More soon.
